Barton Moss progressed to the second round of the Bill Hayhurst Cup this week with an emphatic 5-1 victory over St Luke’s Primary. Barton Moss were drawn at home and made the very short journey to Salford Academy where the game was being played. The boys and girls were excited to get started and they shown that from the first whistle. However, St Luke’s were a strong side and they took the lead in the first five minutes from a well struck free kick which gave goalkeeper Alexandru no chance. Fortunately, this didn’t phase Barton Moss and two quick fire goals from Man United youth prospect Kian Mattison turned the game on its head.
Then came the most important moment of the match, right before half time, the St Luke’s danger man danced through the midfield and was through on goal…. only to be stopped by a world class save from Alexandru to keep Barton Moss in front at the break! With the score being delicately poised at 2-1, Mr Smedley told the children to keep their concentration levels up and utilise the spaces on the pitch a bit better. Barton Moss came out firing and two quick goals from Kian and Lucas put the team in a strong position. A final goal from Kian at the end topped off a brilliant performance from every member of the team.
Barton Moss will now face local rivals Christ Church in the next round of the Competition. Everyone at Kickstart would like to thank Mr Smedley, Mr Harrop, Miss Thomas and Mrs Chew for their hard work in organising, supporting, coaching and refereeing the Football Team.
