Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus or Happy St David’s Day
Our breakfast club at Highfield have been having lots of fun over the last week.
They have been creating all sorts of lovely, colourful crafts for St David’s Day, this year fell it on Thursday 1st March , which incidentally was also World Book Day!
So…. of course…… we celebrated world book day as well creating ‘Thing 1’ and ‘Thing 2’ using our handprints.
For St David’s Day we used paper crafts to make some lovely daffodils to celebrate, however it is a little unclear why daffodils are used and dates back to the 19th century, it is rumoured that it is because they flower around this time of the year. Traditionally leeks were worn by the fighting soldiers, in their caps when they went into battle and supposedly the leeks won them the battles!
