Family Cooking @ Barton Moss

Over at Barton Moss family club we have been running cooking sessions, with Judy from Big Top Catering, to enable us to try out new foods and see how much fun it is to cook together as a family.  The sessions are being run over a five week period and each week focuses on a different type of meal with some interesting variations of what you might consider usual foods.  Jacket potatoes have been tried with a different filling or two – cottage cheese with sunflower seeds, and chicken with mango…..the mango was a big hit!

We have tried out several different smoothies as a healthy and alternative option for a filling breakfast, and we also made some tasty soups.  Tomato soup with a twist using fresh garlic and a very thick and tasty honeyed carrot soup.  Fresh bread was also baked during the session with a hint of grated cheese thrown into the mix – what a delicious taste that was with the tomato soup.

This week we have been doing things the Italian way, firstly trying out a very, very tasty pasta soup…and then getting to try out traditional lasagne with beef mince, but also a vegetarian option using courgette, onion, and carrot as well as the usual cheese sauce and lasagne sheets…..Yum!

Some of the children enjoyed the lasagne that much that they went back for seconds!  They even had the opportunity to dip hot garlic bread into freshly made cheese sauce.

All the children went home with enough ingredients to make a tasty lasagne at home and we have asked them to take pictures of their creations so we can see them next week.
