During the first half term of the new school year, the children of St Matthew’s, Urmston have been working on their football skills with the coaches from Kickstart. The fully booked up club includes a range of ages, from nursery all the way to Year 6. This of course meant that the group had to be split up into a foundation squad and a junior squad. Coach Tom (with his excellent rapport with the younger children) took the foundation squad under his wing whilst coach Sam and new Kickstart coach, Nyle took charge of the junior squad.
The children from KS1 have shown a passion for football and all have a willingness to learn which shows how much they are enjoying it. The sessions are always fun and engaging, which has kept the children interested; and the coaches have provided challenges for those in the club who have shown any early progression.
Meanwhile, with the junior squad, coaches Sam and Nyle have been focusing on building team cohesion, encouraging the children to work together more. The boys have responded well throughout the half term and have demonstrated an eagerness to learn and accept advice. Coaches Sam and Nyle have seen improvement in the children’s abilities during this half term and have stated that with continued attendance the group can only get better.
Overall, it has been a very successful first term of football club for St Matthew’s and the children look forward to coming every week, We look forward to them taking that enthusiasm into the winter months!
