The American Declaration of Independence was signed on the 4th July 1776 and 13 American colonies became a new nation, the United States of America, and were no longer part of the British Empire. So to celebrate the 4th July, last week, the children in After School Club had lots of fun making some wonderful American flags using paper plates and painting them in red, white, and blue, as well as making star spangled necklaces. The children also made some crowns, similar to the one on the Statue of Liberty in New York.
In America they celebrate the 4th July with barbecues, parades, baseball games, and also fireworks. So because we couldn’t really have a BBQ……. we decided to have pasta for snack, and made some firework paintings using coloured card, empty toilet roll holders and of course…..plenty of paint. They were very colourful. And instead of having a baseball game we played football outside, and had some board games as well.
