Therapeutic Intervention
Therapeutic Interventions are targeted, specialist support for children who are struggling with their emotional regulation. Trouble regulating their emotions may negatively impact the children’s behaviour, educational development or social skills.
The sessions are often delivered on a 1:1 or 1:2 basis, dependent on the needs of the child and their personal circumstances. These interventions are tailored to the individual child and follow a child-led approach. This approach means that the sessions follow the child’s pace and create a calm, relaxed environment for the child to communicate. A range of resources will be available to the child during each session, including arts & crafts, board games and sensory toys/activities.
Children will often receive therapeutic interventions for a minimum of 6-10 weeks, with some children receiving support over a much longer period. The sessions are built on mutual trust and respect between us and the child, meaning the environment is calm, welcoming and safe. Some examples of situations where children may benefit from therapeutic interventions are:
- Reported to have poor relationships with friends or siblings
- A child is grieving the death of a loved one
- Regular emotional outbursts: aggression, frustration, sadness, irritability
- Changing family circumstances such as a new sibling, divorce or health problems

Family Support and Interventions
Interventions
We offer early intervention support, designed to promote the development of key life skills for children and young people. Our Smart Choices Programme and 1:1 Therapeutic Interventions have been popular amongst many of our partner schools, and have been particularly successful in addressing an increased range of Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs following the Covid-19 Pandemic.
As explained by the Early Intervention Foundation:
“Early Intervention can help children and young people to develop the skills they need to live happy, healthy and successful lives. It can improve the quality of children’s home lives and family relationships, increase educational attainment and support good mental health.” (EIF, https://www.eif.org.uk/why-it-matters/why-is-it-good-for-children-and-families)
We believe that children deserve the right to explore their current life experiences, range of emotions and concerns within a safe and stimulating environment, whilst learning new skills. Our interventions are designed to help children understand WHY they might be struggling and HOW they can support themselves and others.
