Keeping Up With Kickstart At Home Activity – 029

6th June 2026 by Poppy Simmons

Activity Name:

The Worry Monster

Suitable For:

All ages

Time Required:

20-30mins

What you will need:

  • Pens / Paint
  • Paper
  • Coloured Card
  • Glue
  • Scissors

How to do it:

  1. Take your coloured card and fold it in half to create the monster’s body/head shape.
  2. Cut out a large mouth shape along the folded edge – this will be where the monster “eats” worries.
  3. Cut out eyes, teeth, arms, legs or funny features from paper or card, then glue them onto your monster to make it unique and friendly. (Pre-cut shapes for younger children if needed.)
  4. Use paper to cut out small “worry notes” (simple squares or strips).
  5. Talk about any worries or big feelings and write or draw them onto the notes.
  6. Place each worry note inside the monster’s mouth – letting the monster “hold” or “eat” the worry.

Extension: Make extra monsters, give them names, or create a “home” for them.

What Will the Children Learn:

Children will learn to recognise and talk about their feelings, understand that worries are normal, and build fine motor and creative skills through crafting and play.

Top Tips:

Keep conversations relaxed and positive, support younger children with cutting where needed, and store the monster somewhere safe so new worries can be added over time.
